Water Filtration

Water filtration is becoming a real issue with the poor quality of many municipal water systems. Beware of many systems sold that say they are as good a reverse osmosis unit or a distilled water system. The fact is there is no other system besides these two that can remove 99% of the impurities that might enter your drinking water. Reverse osmosis filtered water makes everything from juice to coffee taste better.

In the event that you have a boil water advisory it is advised to replace the filter cartridges once the emergency is over to keep the bacteria and viruses from growing and accumulating to the point they breach the reverse osmosis membrane. Once bacteria or virus breach the membrane you are no longer drinking safe water.

If connecting a ice maker or water dispenser as in a fridge, or a stand alone ice maker you should use plastic tubing as pure water has a solvent characteristic which will leech copper from any copper water lines between the reverse osmosis unit and the ice maker or water dispenser. The copper not only tastes bad, but it is a health hazard.
