The choice of an appliance dealer is important, as they will be a factor in the experience you have with your appliance choices. Look for an appliance dealer who specializes in many brands that way you are more likely to get unbiased information about the specific models. Dealers who are full service dealers, having both parts and service is an important consideration as they can offer complete one stop service. You are going to get better service than the person who bought appliances from someone else who doesn’t service the products they sell. Always ask who does the warranty service before buying. Another consideration is if they have their own delivery department, as the dealer who delivers their own appliances are more likely to take care in moving the appliances.
You want a sales consultant who is not pushy, nor timid. You want a salesperson who asks questions and actually listens to the answers. Their goal is to help you make an informed decision based on what you need and want, don’t try and control the whole situation. In truth the customers who try and get a salesperson to tell them about every model is only making their own life more difficult as they will soon have so much info they can’t assimilate it. Ideally if the sales person does their job well, they after having asked appropriate questions, should be showing you 2-4 models of each type of appliance. Honesty and integrity is important to ensure you are getting what you want, not what they want to sell. Many manufacturers pay “spiffs.” Spiffs are common in the retail industry, they are incentives to introduce and sell their specific products. A good sales person will put your needs above the incentives they may or may not receive.
A good sales consultant will give you both the pros and cons of each model you wish to look at. If you are not comfortable with a specific salesperson ask for another one. Keep in mind that sales consultants are just doing their job the same as you do yours. They are people with feelings too. Some customers are really rude when greeted or approached by a sales consultant. A simple isn’t an assault on you, it is simple manners.
You want a salesperson who knows what their products as well as other products on the market. They also need to be able to admit if they do not know something and be willing to find the answer to any questions. A good sales person will give you all the installation specifications and get them to your contractor. A service oriented sales person may not be all show, they are concerned about your experience long after you take delivery and will be their if you have any issues and work on your behalf. They follow through on what they promise, they keep you informed, and they return calls and emails.
A good sales person is truly an ally and an asset.
